Hoag Classic
For one week each year, the international spotlight shines brightly on Newport Beach and Orange County. Massive galleries file into Newport Beach Country Club to lend a level of excitement that has established this tournament as the finest stop on the PGA TOUR Champions.
In 2019, this event entered a new era with Hoag as title sponsor and Konica Minolta and City National Bank as presenting partners. The Hoag Classic saw robust attendance and a reinvigorated excitement about PGA TOUR golf in Orange County.
Each year, the tournament raises funds for Hoag and other local charities, totaling more than $20 million in its history – making it one of the most philanthropic events on the PGA TOUR Champions. Through the annual Military Appreciation Day, the Hoag Classic helps to raise money for local military organizations which in years past included, The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, Blue Angels Foundation, as well as others.
Additionally, the Hoag Classic attracts a field of professional players that rivals any major championship in golf, creating compelling competition for our fans. Some notable legends include Ernie Els, Fred Couples, John Daly, Mark O’Meara, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer and many more.
The Hoag Classic is televised domestically on the Golf Channel, and internationally on PGA TOUR television partners overseas. This exposure for our community provides benefits that are immeasurable, and the positive light shed on Orange County residually impacts the businesses and individuals who reside here.
Additionally, the Hoag Classic fills local hotel rooms, restaurants and businesses during tournament week, providing an enormous influx of dollars into our economy. An independent study by Economics Research Associates of Los Angeles determined the economic impact of the tournament on Newport Beach and the surrounding communities of Orange County to be almost $30 million.
The Hoag Classic returns to Newport Beach Country Club, March 20 to 24, 2024 and will feature a purse totaling $2 million –an increase of $200,000 and a record amount for the tournament that firmly places it in the upper echelon of elite golf tournaments.
