PGA TOUR Champions Update
November 13, 2018
Our 2018 Champion, Vijay Singh rallied from six shots behind Sunday with his career-best round on the PGA TOUR Champions, a 10-under 61 that gave him a four-shot victory in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
With the help of Singh’s win, 61-year-old Bernhard Langer won the season title and $1 million annuity. This is his record fifth Charles Schwab Cup, and fourth time in the last five years.
With an eventful close to an incredible 2018 season, we are already looking ahead to the New Year. The 2019 schedule was recently announced, which features 27 events and culminating with the 30th annual Charles Schwab Cup Championship. The TOUR will contest events in four countries and 19 states in its 40th season, with total prize money of nearly $58 million.
In 2019, PGA TOUR Champions will welcome three new title sponsors to the annual schedule, including Hoag Hospital with the Hoag Classic (March 4-10), Mastercard with the Mastercard Japan Championship (June 3-9) and Bridgestone with the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship (July 8-14), which will be contested at Firestone Country Club’s South Course in Akron, Ohio.
The TOUR also will introduce a handful of new players next year, including two-time U.S. Open champion and 2019 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee Retief Goosen of South Africa, as well as two-time major champion Angel Cabrera of Argentina.
